In 1947, Sir Peter Medawar was appointed Mason Professor of Zoology at the university. His perform included investigating the phenomenon of tolerance and transplantation immunity. He collaborated with Rupert E. Billingham and they did study on challenges of pigmentation and skin grafting in cattle.
